Breath Test to Measure Breakdown of Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Scientists at Pan Diagnostics Limited (PDL) have developed an easy-to-use breath test to measure the breakdown of omega-3 fatty acids due to oxidative stress.

Recent research has shown that deficiencies of omega-3, found primarily in fish oil, are linked to a wide range of conditions including: heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma and neuro-development illnesses like  depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, dyspraxia and ADHD.  Research also shows that assisting in the treatment and prevention of these conditions with omega-3 supplementation can be extremely beneficial.

The OSI can help identify if omega-3 is actually breaking down within your body.  The OSI measures ethane, which is formed when oxygen free radicals damage and destroy omega-3 fatty acids.  This process is called 'oxidative stress' .  The more ethane present in the breath, the more damage oxidative stress is doing to omega-3 fatty acids.  If left untreated, high levels of ethane can lead to a omega-3 fatty acid deficiency.

The OSI has been designed as a fun looking, bubble shaped bag and is easy to use.  The OSI is particularly effective for use with children and can be used with children as young as 3 years of age.  The OSI is for professional use only and can be arranged with the assistance of a healthcare professional such as your family GP or a nutritional therapist. 

Breath samples are returned back to the PDL laboratory for analysis, with easy to understand results posted out within two weeks.
