On Nov. 25, 2001The
London Programme put together this powerful piece of journalism, which investigated
why there has been a 10-fold increase in the incidence of autism in the UK, and
if this explosion is linked to the MMR vaccination.
Within the 40-minute
programme was a profile of Alfie Morris, whose mother Zoe explained has found
great benefits from giving refined omega 3.
Excerpts:[Zoe Morris]'Alfie
was developing normally. He was a healthy robust child, totally adorable. He was
absolutely fine. We had no problems with anything. he was speaking. He had
his MMR and he was poorly after that. A bit feverish and developed nasty conjunctivitis
for a few days after that. We moved here and that was when the autism started
creeping up and taking him over and he just became very withdrawn into himself
and his world. He watched Thomas videos continually. He played with trains, lining
them all up and lost the speech that he did have.' [Later in the
Programme: Reporter] (Some parents) took the advice of
this man, lipid biochemist Gordon Bell, and added Omega-3 fish oils to (their
children's) diet. After conducting trials on the dramatically positive effects
of fish oils on schizophrenia and manic depression, he's tried using them on his
own autistic son. And later, his son's autistic schoolmates.
[Dr
Gordon Bell]'I should make this clear that these are not the results
of a clinical trial and that is something that we need to do. 'But I and
other people have suggested to parents that we try some of these supplements.
Of these parents, a number have got back to me and reported that there have been
improvements in their children. Particularly, what we would hope to see, and do
see, is a reduction in aggression, hyperactivity and improvements in sleep disturbance,
which can be a major problem in autism. Sometimes (we see) improvements
in speech and basic improvements in behaviour and the ability of the child to
concentrate and attend to what is going on.' [Reporter]This
is the handwriting of a child with diagnosed Attention Deficit Disorder, low on
the autistic spectrum of diseases. This is that child's writing
after only three months taking fish oils, with no handwriting coaching. Alfie
Morris still plays up in the supermarket when he is afraid or confused by what
he sees and hears, but he is coming out of his autistic world and loving his family
again, since dietary change and the use of fish oils. [Zoe Morris]
'He
is a lot calmer now, a hell of a lot calmer, relaxed. His speech is just coming
on in leaps and bounds. 'He used to sleep in a little nest that
I built in his bedroom doorway, with a little gate up to keep him safe. He now
sleeps in his own bed and actually sleeps between nine and 11 hours. 'He
used to only sleep for two hours and so that to me is the biggest boon!' |
